Regulation (EU) 2023/1114
October 16, 2026
MiCA, Regulation (EU) 2023/1114, replaced the separate national crypto registrations in EU and EEA countries with one authorisation regime. A firm that provides crypto-asset services needs a MiCA authorisation or notification from the regulator in its home country, and can then offer those services across the European Economic Area through passporting.
The rules for crypto-asset service providers applied from 30 December 2024, with national transitional periods that ended by 1 July 2026 at the latest. MiCA also covers issuers of asset-referenced tokens and e-money tokens.
On 13 October 2026, VASPnet recorded 372 MiCA-permitted CASPs across the 30 EEA jurisdictions, up from 257 on 30 June. Read the key findings.
