Regulation (EU) 2023/1113, known as the Transfer of Funds Regulation, has applied since 30 December 2024. It extends the EU's payment transparency rules to crypto-asset transfers, so CASPs must send information on the originator and beneficiary with each transfer and check the information they receive.
The regulation also added Article 19b to the EU anti-money laundering directive, which requires extra due diligence on correspondent relationships with crypto providers outside the EU. In practice, both obligations start with knowing which entity sits on the other side of a transfer.
