The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) uses VASP for any business that, on behalf of customers, exchanges virtual assets for money or for other virtual assets, transfers them, keeps them safe or takes part in financial services linked to a token issue. FATF's standards ask countries to license or register VASPs and supervise them for anti-money laundering.
Most countries outside the EU use the VASP label. Under MiCA, the EU equivalent is a CASP.
VASPnet collects regulatory data on VASPs directly from regulators and public authorities worldwide, so compliance teams can confirm the legal entity behind a counterparty and its status in each jurisdiction.
